Kittens Move In

On November 14, 1997, Amy and I were acquired by a pair of new kittens: Cinnamon and Spice. Here is a batch of photos from their first week with us.

At this time, they're about 11 weeks old.

Kittens again

As the kittens get larger, we took more photos. It is amazing how much they've grown in just a few weeks.

Also, a few pictures indicate that Tabby is growing more used to having them around. He is even dealing with Cinnamon sitting on his tail. He doesn't let me do that!

Reflections on a missed friend

In the early winter of 1982, while living in Philadelphia, I rescued a kitten. I found it in a snowstorm huddled under a bush. I rubbed it warm and dry with my hands, and then told it to go home.

As I walked away, it tried to follow me. It would walk a few steps on the snow, and then fall in. It would climb out of the hole, walk a few more steps, and then fall in again.

I let this pitiful display go on for a block. After that, I put the cat into my coat, and walked home.

Being totally ignorant of cats (as a kid, we'd only dogs), I fed it tuna, let it sleep with me overnight, and then let it go the next day (after the storm was over).

It hung around outside. When I went to leave the house myself much later, it was at the front door. "Please sir, may I have some more" is what it might have said. Of course, "let me in now, two-legs, and get me more tuna" is another possible interpretation.

My friend was with me for about 15 years, before passing away recently after an all too short battle with cancer. He figured in all of the major events of my life, moving across the country twice, overcoming his jealousy of Amy (and eventually falling in love with her as I already had), and just generally being the smartest and most expressive cat that I've ever known.

I wish that I'd more photos of him than I do. But what I have, I'll be scanning. Here are a few.

Kittens after about four months

A new toy keeps the kitties occupied for an extensive period of time. From the same time, there are also more shots on another roll.

Some more kitten photos

Also included in this little set are some beautiful sunrise and rainbox photos that Amy took at some morning hour in which I'm not sure I believe.
